Goal Setting
Introduction
This sounds really boring doesn’t it? We’ll it isn’t! Once you start setting goals and get into the swing of it you just can’t stop. A lot of successful people such as Richard Branson and David Beckham continually set goals.
Setting goals gives you a purpose! Your life feels enriched when you start aiming towards goals because it gives you something to focus on and enjoy. These goals shouldn’t be anyone else, they should be about things you enjoy and want to achieve.
Make sure they are SMART:
- Specific
- Measurable
- Achieveable
- Reliable
- Timely
Setting your goals
You need to set off with, say, five goals which can all be achieved in upto 12 months. Establish your goals by asking stuff like:
- What motivates me?
- What are my interests?
- What would I do more of if I could?
- What do I want?
- What do I care about?
- Where do I want my life to go?
- What would make me happy?
- What are my ambitions?
Then from that you can come up with a mix of goals such as:
- Get a 2.1 at University
- Make the first team in rugby
- Raise £1,000 for charity
- Meet someone famous
- Skydive
Plan your goals
The best way you can do this is by using our goal setting sheet or look at the mind map to show how you can do it. Break down how you can do it. If you find an excuse why not to do it try and find a positive solution around it, don’t just give up.
